UNDERLAYMENT

Underlayment is required for any installation of a floating floor, like laminate & engineered hardwood. Underlayment absorbs the minor imperfections of the subfloor. The underlayment also deadens the sound when walking on the floor, since it's not attached to the subfloor. Underlayment is not similar to carpet padding. A thicker underlayment will not make the floating floor feel softer. We carry 4 different types of underlayment.

Standard Foam: This is the most common underlayment. If the subfloor is near perfect and you are not so much concerned with deadening the noise, standard underlayment will be the cheapest option. This item does not have a moisture barrier so it cannot go on a sub-floor where that could be an issue (i.e. concrete). To use over concrete, you would need to put a polyethylene film (heavy duty painter's plastic) down first and then the standard underlayment.

Laminate Plus: This pad is made from synthetic carpet fibers from which 50% are recycled. Sound absorbent and an excellent insulator. It is non allergenic and won't support bacterial growth. Recommend for wood subfloors.

Silencer: Its quiet and contains Ultra-Fresh anti-microbial protection which resists mold, mildew & odor causing bacteria. It is non-allergenic & odorless. It is suitable for use with radiant heat flooring systems. Recommend for any type of subfloor.

Silent Walk:: This is the premium pad choice. It is 100% high density synthetic rubber with SBR. It resists moisture but also includes its own polyethylene film. It is antimicrobial, antifungal and nonallergenic, resists mildew and odors. Will not degrade over radiant over radiant heated floors (tested to 150 degrees). Recommended for all subfloors and especially for 2nd levels.
